3. Want to be a tutor?!

Are you interested to be a tutor for a Finnish student who arrives to St. Petersburg? Tutor is a voluntary friend who helps Finnish student in his/her everyday problems and helps to get settled to St. Petersburg. Finnish friend gets support and a new friend where You get a new friend and also an opportunity to know new culture and train Your Finnish skills.

You don´t need to speak perfect Finnish! Finnish students often speak English or Russian, and being a tutor for a Finnish student Your language skills will get better.

As a tutor you should:

Keep contact to Finnish student before he/she arrives to St. Petersburg. Student usually have many questions concerning studying, living, transportation etc. And You´re the best person to answer to all these questions.

If Finnish student wants, to go and see him/her to the railway/bus station when he/she arrives.

To show him/her St. Petersburg. Quite often he/she wants to know very basic everyday things like where is the nearest grocery store or where can buy metro tickets.

These are only examples what tutoring could include! You together will decide what kind Your tutoring will be.

Tutor is often Finnish student’s first friend in St. Petersburg and big help and support during the first weeks. First keeping contact might be quite intensive but afterwards You can decide together how much and how to keep contact. You can continue for example in Each One, Teach One -program!
